As most of you should know by now, the UK was hit by a crazy weather front over the past few days, which left everything covered in a blanket of snow! If you hadn’t noticed, and wondered why it was so cold all of a sudden, I think you should go turn off your Xbox, look out the window and start taking notes, because we’re about to show you how to have fun in the ‘white stuff’!

The first option is snow tyres. This is super easy and super cheap. Below Nathan Beddows shows you how this is possible in an easy to follow step by step guide.

1. Obviously you’ll need to have a spare set of tyres lying around and some snow to ride them through… You might be able to ride through some soft mud too but seriously don’t try to ride them on concrete or you’ll just end up with punctures. You’ll need some screws too! We did the research on the B&Q website and came to the conclusion that Zinc Plated Twin Thread Countersunk were gonna be the best to use. The clearance between the forks and the top of the tyre was just over 20mm so we got 2 bags of 20mm in 5mm thickness for the front tyre and 4mm thickness for the back tyre. If clearance is still a problem then dust of that angle grinder you bought back in ’98 to slam your Trailboss and skim a bit off the top of each spike…

2. We decided on the spike pattern from the pattern of the tyre. Good ol’ Odyssey Aitkens would make a sweet diamond pattern if we screwed them in alternating from middle to outside tread. The back tyre required a bit more guesswork but it’s not hard really is it?

3. After you have screwed about 4 or 5 screws in you realise that this is gonna take f@cking ages! At this stage you might wanna put the kettle on and get a couple of DVDs. We watched the John Carpenter classic Village Of The Damned, which was pretty sh*t to be honest, and then about 2 or 3 runs of Peep Show on 4OD. Basically it took about 3 hours (maybe even longer) but afterwards we had wrists of steel.

5. Having some mates to take turns can help a lot, but not if they give up after just 3 screws…

6. After you’ve finally finished the b@stard job it’ll be well late so go to bed, but in the morning you’ll wanna put a whole roll’s worth of Duct Tape over those countersunk heads because otherwise you’ll get punctures – but that’s obvious right?

7. For added protection cut an innertube down the middle the same way you would gut a python and then tape that inside the tyre too. We thought about re-enacting the 1997/Zack Sprinkle craze of putting a whole ‘nuver tyre inside your tyre but then we decided that some things are better left in the past…

8.The finished product – time to get out there and shred that snow! Hopefully these will last for years to come and if the Mad Max films have taught us anything it’s that spikey tyres will more than likely end being some kind of fashion accessory in Bartertown… so get busy whilst the weather is still crap!
