Shaun Haddlington’s crash video

Shaun Haddlington had a pretty bad crash at NASS this year. He tried a couple of times to whip the big gap and he thought that the third time would be the one. So did I, so did everyone else. Shaun came in steep and pretty low, snapping the headtube clean off his frame. The frame, only two weeks old can’t really be blamed for breaking, I mean, with a 12 stone guy landing front wheel from 14ft up, I don’t think anything wouldn’t snap…

Check out the footage, luckily Shaun is OK.

Fuck sub 5lb frames. I know that this example is an over-average impact for any frame, but Jason Phelan’s frame did the same thing in Cologne from just landing a 360 a little heavy over a spine.

So, once again, fuck sub 5lb frames. Heat treated bullshit.

    name and shame the frame…
he’s a good bloke, would be a shame to see him seriously injured due to shite engineering…

I heard Shaun got that frame pretty cheap – ‘half price’ I think?

Definitely a ‘cracking deal’ either way, I just hope he hadn’t got too ‘attached’ to it.

Jason Phelan’s got one just like that too – ’snap!’

    ;-)

“The frame, only two weeks old can’t really be blamed for breaking, I mean, with a 12 stone guy landing front wheel from 14ft up, I don’t think anything wouldn’t snap” …Fuck that statement sucks I wouldn’t want a frame that i couldn’t expect to hold up to this. No wonder most kids only ride one foot high ledges.

2 frames snapped in competition in one weekend.what the fuck..apparently the whole unkown team go through a frame a week though so maybe these top of the range bikes are designed purely for the people sponsored cos they dont have to pay for replacements?

  35. common sense says:

Any frame would have broken in that situation, think about what was being done and the forces involved, its not like he 180′d a curb. In a sense Shaun is lucky it did as it allowed him to fall in a completely different way to how he’d have landed if the frame creased, the accident could have been a lot nastier on his body. No frame would have been rideable after that impact even if it hadn’t snapped. People’s expectations of their frames capabilities are ridiculous, that was a 20ft landing to flat with all the force going through the forks and acting in shear on the head tube. People demand light frames and then bitch about them when this freak occurrence happens and blame it on bad engineering, I’m sure the engineering behind this frame and Jason Phelan’s frame is sound but at the end of the day it’s a tube of steel that is fatigued day in and day out and eventually it will fail, especially when subjected to massive loading.

  45. Tom says:

    August 28th, 2009 at 16:19

if the frame was welded correctly it would not have broken at the weld, it would break the top and bottom tube or fork first

  46. Luc says:

    August 28th, 2009 at 16:43

yea tbh F**k lighter than 5lbs and tbh i think most 2 week old frames shuld be able to withstand that

  49. gt rider says:

    September 29th, 2009 at 20:09

    simple math equation

    sub 5lb frame+massive flat landing=frame snap

over 5lb frame+same landing= no snap ride away clean
(my gt frame is over 5lb an can stand up to the sh*t i throw @ it-14 ft drop off vert wall and it was ok [i wasnt though- a n e 4 me lol])
